#DEArTour – 2024 MLK Celebration at Harvey B. Gantt Center of Art and Culture

Today’s post is apart of our travel segment #DEArTour in which we are highlighting my latest visit to the Harvey B Gantt Center for Art and Culture in Charlotte, North Carolina.

My latest visit to the Harvey B Gantt Center of Arts and Culture in Charlotte, North Carolina was last week for the annual MLK Celebration for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. This is a celebration that is known in Charlotte that the gallery hosts annually each year, but this was my first time personally attending. There were multiple activities to take part in for both women and men, along with some children based activities and areas as well. Overall the purpose of this celebration is centered around the late Reverend Dr. King and his accomplishments throughout his lifetime before his tragic death.

The first artwork that I encountered upon arriving to the main floor, which is the second floor of the gallery, was this beautiful mural shown above. It spanned from the beginning of the second floor as you reached the exhibition rooms, all the way to the back of that same floor. I love how it was centered around Charlotte, North Carolina and the landmarks apart of the city, along with significant figures that have accomplished major achievements throughout the city.

Throughout each exhibition room were a variety of different paintings and photography. I loved the variety of different art forms and styles but mainly the acrylic and oil paint portraits. They were all so beautiful and matched my style of art and design that I often take part in myself.

The collection from Kennedi Carter was my favorite overall from the event.
They were photography pieces of real life scenarios and scenes that I could relate to the most including some really nice pregnancy shots.

Overall this event was really great. I really had a lot of fun and was able to connect with multiple people, artists, families, and business owners throughout the showing.
I look forward to attending again in the future years to come.
