The second day of #DEBlackHistory is on the topic of Writing/Authors. One of the most influential writers, and one of my personal favorites, would be Sharon M. Draper. During middle school I was assigned to read one of her books called The Battle of Jericho for a summer reading assignment and I instantly fell in love with her material and continuous book series. I always enjoy reading her books yearly as they often relate to real life events that include teens that were the same age as me at the time, and current societal events that happen daily around the world. The Battle of Jericho novel is about a young teen who was granted the opportunity to join a highschool fraternity, only for that opportunity to back fire when things take a tragic turn during a hazing initiation. This is just one of Draper’s many great novels available. Not only is Draper an amazing writer but she is also a professional educator whom has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year, five-time award winner of the Coretta Scott King Literary Award and she is currently the New York Times bestselling author!
