DeluxHair – First Wash & Go

With the summertime already being here and my time being cut in half due to art exhibitions, friends and family events, and vacations coming up soon, I am on a pursuit to find styles that don’t require too much time to do in the mornings. When I first did my big chop I attempted to do wash and goes on multiple occasions and they were always horrible. I had no idea what products to use nor what order to use them in when trying to achieve this particular style. After a while I gave up on it and promised to try it out again once my hair gained some length.

Above is my first attempt at a wash and go this year. My curls were there but they weren’t really defined as much as I would’ve liked for them to be. I used the Shea Moisture African Black Soap shampoo and conditioner, along with the Jamaican Caster Oil Leave In Conditioner. This go around, I used more leave in conditioner to make it really soft, but no other styling products. My ends started to curl in more after a day of this particular style which was maintained by using a satin wrap scarf around the edges of my hair overnight.

My second attempt at the style this year was a success. The same products were used but the Eco Professional Styling Gel Olive Oil added in as well. I washed my hair as normal, applied my leave in conditioner and then parted my hair into six different sections all over my head. Starting from the back, I finger separated each section of my hair while using the hair gel. It took me a while to figure out how much hair gel was needed, and whether or not I was using too much. My biggest fear was that it would make my hair super hard and easily prone to breakage and drying out. But to my surprise, I was able to use a good amount of it without any type of hardening happening. My hair became bouncy and began to move more with the styling gel compared to without above.

As with the first attempt at my wash and go, I decided to go with a high puff again on the second day of this particular style. A band was used to bring all of my hair to the top of my head, similar to the look of a pineapple. My curls were still very defined and bouncy, and no reapplication of products were needed.

Here’s a progression shot of how much my hair has grown since the first high puff of this year as well. My participation in the no heat hair challenge has been successful towards my hair growth.
