Say Your Prayers, Sadie Rose! is one of our very first Book Cover Designs that Delux Designs (DE), LLC has ever completed so this is a huge accomplishment for us in building our services offered to our current and potential clients. I personally know Author Avette Brown, she asked us to take on this great project earlier this year and of course I was more than happy to come up with this amazing creation for her.
For this Book Cover Design order, we created the front and back covers for this children’s book. On the front we brought out the aspect of prayer with a set of praying hands but instead of going with the traditional adult hands, we went with an illustration of child’s hands to symbolize this is a children’s book. The background design of the cover was so fun to do. We wanted it simple and minimalistic with a pattern that could continue onto the front and the back of the book but yet something that popped out when you seen it. So we went with slightly rugged paint strokes. The background of the back cover is a replica of the background of the front cover so they both flow with one another.
The color scheme of this project is shown below. More of a pastel feel than what we typically work with. The main color of rose was chosen by our client so we made sure to add that into the background of the cover along with white strokes onto a light gray surface. In the book, it features a little girl so I kept the gray color more feminine than going with something darker and masculine.
The font that was used is a song for Jennifer that I found on DaFont.
I chose this one because it had a childlike feel but was easy to read along with the fact that it’s more of a bold typeface. This font also picks up on the slightly rugged brush strokes of the background of the cover with its edges not having that traditional and typical smooth look. The colors of the background were used to create the text with additional black added in as well as outlines.
