Why did we choose purple for The Purple Crown Project?

There are multiple campaigns that take part nationally around the world monthly.
Most of them have a significant color or ribbon to go along with each individual cause and charity so you will be able to recognize them easily when showing support.

For The Purple Crown Project, this is no different. We also use certain colors and symbols for representation of this segment of our non-profit. Our first symbol of representation is the color purple. Purple has always been the national and official color for domestic violence awareness in the United States started by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence back in 1981. Purple was chosen years ago because it ties into the purple heart concept from the military. When a soldier is injured or wounded in the military, a purple heart is given as a symbol of courage and honor. This same concept is applied for victims of domestic violence as a sense of hope, peace, courage, survival, honor and dedication.

A second symbol of representation for domestic violence awareness includes a purple ribbon. Ribbons are often used for a number of different things including breast cancer awareness and alzheimer’s awareness daily. For domestic violence awareness, the purple ribbon is used in which you may often see it tied around purple flowers.
