My name is Khadijah Evans aka “Hobo Dia” and I’m an artist from Corpus Christi, Texas. I now live in Tyler, Texas where I just finished playing basketball for the University of Texas at Tyler. I think I’ve always been destined to be an artist. Art is anything you create with your heART. We all have our own kind of art.
My art includes drawing, poetry, writing, basketball and music. To this day, I love to do all of these things. I’ve always been into drawing, ever since I was a kid. I remember my mom buying me art sets for Christmas. I even wanted to be a fashion designer at one point. I remember drawing dresses and different clothing on models.
I started rapping with my stepdad at age 11, and I fell in love with the art. I wrote short stories when I was in elementary school and had dreams of being an author.
I wrote poetry when I was younger, usually to relieve stress.
Then there was a point when I just stopped. I stopped doing art all together. I stopped probably when I was around the age of 15. I fell into depression. I lost myself. I didn’t know who I was and for about a year, I didn’t know what to do with my life. I started to draw again when I got into my “pity parties.” But the art just didn’t fill my heart anymore. Basketball was also my art, and even that couldn’t make me happy.
As I was in search of the art that would make me happy. I came across Jesus.
I then fell in love with Jesus during this time away from my art. Then He led me back to it. He changed my life and it was then that God truly became real to me. I haven’t been the same ever since. It’s my destiny to be an artist. Whether it’s to be a poet, a painter, or a rapper, I’m unsure yet. But, that is why God put me on this earth… To share my story through my heART in order to spread love to you all. I really wish words could describe the joy and peace of mind that I now have! I didn’t realize how important art is to me until I got to college. I didn’t realize that it was part of who I was. And when God found me, I found my art. While wandering on this earth, I long to spread joy to people the way I know i was put here to do. I’ll do that until the day I die.
That’s why they call me hobo. Because I don’t belong here on earth.
Heaven is my true home. As is yours.
