The LCO and LOC methods are two of the most important parts of being a curly natural. These methods are basically how you apply products to your natural hair for either moisturizing or during your wash routine. Both consists of the three things listed below:

1. Liquid
2. Conditioner
3. Oil

The liquid would be water, the conditioner would be your leave in conditioner, and the oil would be your oil of choice whether it be coconut oil, argan oil, olive oil. tea tree oil, etc. What makes them so different is the order in which they are being used.

LCO Method
This is where you would use your liquid (water) on your hair first before applying any other products right after you wash your hair. Does not have to be soaking wet, just thoroughly wet. Next you would apply your conditioner (leave in conditioner). Last would be your choice of oil.

LOC Method
This is where you would use your liquid (water) first. Again, it doesn’t have to be soaking wet, just thoroughly wet all over. Then apply your oil of choice. Lastly applying your leave in conditioner.

I have found that the LCO method is better than the LOC method because the oil that is being put onto your hair last, acts as a sealant for the leave in conditioner. Meaning that moisture from the conditioner is sealed into your hair longer with the oil applied on top of it. Sort of like a hair barrier. When I tried the LOC method, my hair would always be frizzy and curls would not be defined at all once I took it down from setting the night before. Check out some examples of my results below.
