Becoming a Freelance Art Writer

Becoming a Freelance Art Writer is not a hard task at all, you just need a topic to write about, a platform to write on and a determination to have your voice heard.

Delux Designs (DE), LLC began this art blog a couple years ago in hopes of highlighting the progress we have made as an art service, provide a platform for our work, along with documenting our founder and head designer @K_DougDE. Ever since our beginning stages, we have grown so incredibly much in such a short amount of time and have caught the attention of some very big brands and names around the world.

Now we would like to provide some tips for you as a creative on becoming a Freelance Art Writer:

Decide on what you want to write about. This is the most important step. Being a freelance writer is not just about writing on every single topic you can find. Now some do and some are very successful at it, but if you’re wanting to be an art writer we recommend sticking to art related topics. Make a decision on your platform choice. This matters just as much as what you want to write about. There are a variety of different platforms you can choose from online, you just have to research them and figure out which one fits your interests the best. A couple examples would be WordPress, Wix, Blogger, Medium for you to try out and begin your new hobby or career.
Pick a name. This step is a little more tricky than it seems. Some writers just go by their own name as a freelance writer to make things more simple and direct especially if their writings are more personal. Others pick an alias or a blog name to pursue their writing career. Again, all up to you depending on your own personal preference.
Write. This is the hardest step of being a freelance writer. Most believe that writing and being a freelance writer is a simple process but most of the time it is not. Sometimes you will have brain fogs. Sometimes you won’t know what to write about. And there are times where you will be completely burned out from writing so much you won’t have any determination or ambition to keep up you practice and that’s alright. We all need a break sometimes.
Begin your portfolio and resume as a writer. We would recommend that you set up a portfolio specifically for your writings or add your art based writings that have been published online or offline to your art resume. When apply for writing based jobs and job positions this will make things a lot more easier for your potential employer to view what you have to offer and the skill set you have. You can go ahead and set up a portfolio as well specifically for your writings. Some writing gigs require that you send over a portfolio of your work for consideration so beginning this is important. If you don’t have a lot of writings to add don’t be discouraged, add them anyways and keep adding them every time you complete each writing gig.
